Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7
Hawthorn offers after-school supervision for students from Junior Kindergarten – Grade 7 from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM daily. The after-school supervision is a structured program with time set aside for homework, play, and the provision of a snack for each student. There are two choices for parents: Regular Use (monthly billing) and Occasional Use (pay-as-you-go).
Regular: monthly fee of $200 per child (March & June – $100)
Occasional: a fee of $6 per half hour or portion thereof.
After 6:00 p.m. a charge of $1/minute will apply.
At Hawthorn, we offer a variety of different after-school activities throughout the year at an additional cost. The activities are delivered to the girls inside the school building by either a Hawthorn teacher or by an external facilitator, and they offer our girls the opportunity to experience something they would not otherwise do in the classroom.
VIB STEM Club
The VIB (Very Important Builders) Club is the perfect blend of LEGO®-based STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities and creativity in which SK to grade 5 students are invited to participate. Each week builders engage in a STEM task and use LEGO® bricks to solve the challenge. Over progressive lessons, students learn to work collaboratively, engage in critical thinking, and understand the importance of communication in STEM activities. Most importantly, they have a joyful learning experience with the learning-through-play methods. Learning through play and STEM go hand-in-hand to engage students at a deeper level with the skills and knowledge needed for future learning success. Additionally, students learn socially, by sharing findings and ideas in a friend-filled environment.
Piano Lessons (Gr. 1-12) with Ms. Marchak, Hawthorn strings teacher, UofT concert pianist graduate, and Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT performer; specifically tailored teaching and sharing of a love of music through private piano lessons.
Vela Club (Gr. 3-5) with Ms. Faraj, former Hawthorn Math faculty and current mentor; encouragement to share and shine in friendship, focus, and virtue through cooking, baking, and crafts.
