SUMMARY:Last day of the gift card program!
DESCRIPTION:Dear Parents and Staff\, \n“The Gift Card Program” is back!!! This is an opportunity for us to help our school! \nIn case it’s new to you or you need a refresher\, Hawthorn acquires gift cards for major retailers at a discount price. You as Hawthorn parents buy the gift cards from Hawthorn at their face value\, redeem them at that same value\, and Hawthorn keeps the difference as fundraising revenue. Most of the cards have no expiry dates. See the attached order form for the list of retailers. \nThis is how it works: \n \nThe beauty of this program is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work\, earning money for Hawthorn without spending anything additional\, and providing an alternative that involves no selling of unwanted items. \nGift cards are ideal for Christmas\, birthday and employee gifts. We can also use them for just about any purchase including recurring expenses such as food\, gas\, dining out\, clothing\, entertainment\, furniture\, building supplies\, auto repair\, and much more. \nThis is a simple and effective fundraising program and Hawthorn counts on your participation! The deadline to submit your order(s) is on Friday\, December 5\, 2025. \nPlease fill out the form\, that you can download below\, and return it with your payment at the front office on or before the deadline. Payments may be submitted by cash at the front desk\, cheque made payable to Hawthorn School for Girls\, or e-transfer to payments@hawthornschool.com (password: hawthorn; note: “Gift Cards“). To facilitate the process\, we are sending a printed copy of the order form with your child(ren) today. \nThanks for your support! \nContact us at administration@hawthornschool.com if you have any questions. \n  \n[Download gift card order form here]

The Order of the Missionaries of Charity cares for the blind\, the elderly\, the dying\, refugees\, and all those in need in the poorest communities of the city. \nWe partner with the Missionaries of Charity at Christmas in providing support for current families in need. The order form is attached\, and some extra copies are available at the office. \nStudents will receive house points for every gift card sent: \n\n\n15 house points: For each gift card ordered through the Hawthorn Gift Card Program. Deadline to order through the school is Friday\, December 5th. Please fill a form just for this purpose (do not mix with personal orders) and indicate at the top the order is for the generosity project. Forms attached for your convenience.\n\n\n\n\n10 house points: For gift cards bought outside the gift card program until December 12th\n\n\nLed by the Curie House\, our students will assemble gift baskets together on Monday\, December 15th in the afternoon for the Christmas Generosity Project. The Upper School students will then deliver the hampers to the Missionaries of Charity\, who will distribute the gifts to the families by Christmas day. \nThank you so much for your help to share the joy of Christmas with these residents of Toronto. \nIf you have any questions\, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Saishio msaishio@hawthornschool.com \nOn behalf of the Curie House\, thank you for your generosity! \nThe Christmas Generosity Project Team

SUMMARY:Parents' Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Dear Parents and Friends\, \nWe invite you and your friends to join us for our Parent Speaker Series event: \nSafeguarding Childhood: A Parent’s Role Against Human Trafficking \nDate: Thursday\, November 13 \nTime: 7:00–8:00 p.m. \nLocation: Hawthorn School for Girls \nThis important session will demystify human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation in Canada. You will gain insight into what human trafficking actually looks like\, who is most at risk\, and how families and schools can recognize red flags and respond safely. \nWhat Attendees Will Learn: \n\nReal-world examples relevant to youth in the Toronto area\nRisk factors and warning signs in peers or online interactions\nPractical applications for home and school that align with values of dignity and care\n\nPresenters: \n\nRichard Dunwoody\, Founder of Project Recover\, a self-funded non-profit supporting survivors of human trafficking. His advocacy was instrumental in the passing of the Debt Bondage Repair Act in the U.S.\nTwo survivors of human trafficking will also share their personal experiences virtually. One is a Canadian survivor who spent over fifteen years in multiple facets of the sex trade and now educates police agencies\, service providers\, schools\, and the hospitality industry on prevention and intervention.\n\nWe strongly encourage all parents and adults who deal with young people to attend this powerful and informative session. \nPlease REGISTER by filling out this form. \nRefreshments will be provided and childcare will be available. \nAdmission is complimentary but donations are always welcome. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to this important conversation.
