The LS Travels North and Discovers our True NATURE!!

At the beginning of each school year, Hawthorn’s Lower School students (Grades 1 – 7), along with our very enthusiastic faculty, take part in a one-day camp trip. This year we were excited to be visiting beautiful Camp Kawartha in Douro-Dummer, Ontario, on Friday, September 5th. Outdoor Education is an important part of Hawthorn’s Health and Physical Education Enhancement Program, and we were thrilled to jump into outdoor adventure activities and educational games, connecting with nature and with each other as we kicked off the 2025-26 school year. We couldn’t have asked for a more enchanting playground, nestled in the heart of the Kawarthas, on the south shore of Clear Lake. Roaming over their 186 acres of beautiful land with trails, forests, wetlands, and waterfront, we simply loved exploring the natural world and learning about the environment.

Thank you to our beloved Hawthorn staff who helped make this wonderful experience possible. And a special thanks to the Camp Kawartha dedicated educators who led us energetically throughout the day; with their diverse range of talents, including natural history knowledge, storytelling, and team-building, they created an engaging and enriching outdoor classroom experience for us, and we are so thankful!
