Excellence in Writing

Hawthorn knows that when our students enjoy learning how to write through analyzing and imitating existing good writing, they can gradually develop their ability to competently express themselves in their own original compositions. We have found tremendous success in our English program by adopting the methods of the Institute for Excellence in Writing throughout our school. We teach students how to write with clear structure and compelling style. Beginning with the basics—rewriting a paragraph—and continuing all the way into advanced creative and essay writing, we nurture excellence in writing and thinking in all of our students. From our very youngest authors in their first texts, to our graduating class in their Master Discourse Project interdisciplinary presentations, we teach students how to write well, think clearly, and express themselves eloquently and persuasively.
