Cross Country Team Races into Fall!

Cross Country Team Races into Fall!

Hawthorn’s Grade 9–12 cross country team, consisting of seven dedicated athletes, has had an excellent start to the season. Our October competitions have challenged Junior Girls with 5250 m races and Senior Girls 6000 m races, and we couldn’t be more proud of our performances.

Our first meet was the Colts Classic held on Wednesday, October 1st at Milne Park Conservation Area. The beautiful fall weather provided perfect racing conditions. Our athletes ran with determination, setting a strong tone for the season.

Despite forecasts of rain and lightning, our second meet went ahead in excellent dry conditions. We met for the Birchmount Park XC Meet on Monday, October 7th at Ashtonbee Park in Scarborough. Several athletes broke their personal records, showcasing impressive growth and perseverance.

Two of our athletes have proven themselves eligible for the CISAA (Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association) Cross Country Championship Meet on Wednesday, October 22nd at Trinity College School in Port Hope. The meet will host over 700 participants. The course is primarily run on grass with the occasional stretch of gravel or mud. It skirts the Trinity College campus and includes open fields, orchards, two road crossings, and the “dreaded” Mt. Trinity. Please join Hawthorn in wishing our outstanding runners the best of luck in this important competition!

All of our XC team members have shown great effort, sportsmanship, and team spirit, which are the most important measures of success. Each of our runners set new personal bests, demonstrating incredible grit and determination in the Fall season. We are proud of all of our racers and look forward to seeing them continue to improve and compete.

Many thanks to our incredibly supportive XC coaches, Ms Lim and Ms Irizar, for everything you do to help us grow stronger and faster; we couldn’t do it without you!
