Going Forward Hand in Hand: Hawthorn’s Annual Walk-a-Thon

Going Forward Hand in Hand: Hawthorn’s Annual Walk-a-Thon

On Friday, September 25, our school community came together for the Annual Big Sister–Little Sibling Walk-a-Thon. We are excited to share that we raised a total of $5,812 to support the growing needs of our athletics program. Congratulations to all the Houses for their incredible efforts:

  • Curie – $1,992 | 250 points
  • Tubman – $1,629 | 204 points
  • Nightingale – $1,197 | 150 points
  • Frank – $992 | 124 points

A special shout out to our top individual fundraisers:

Carina (Grade 3) – $515

Roma (Grade 2) – $500

Mila(SK) – $500

To inspire participation, the House with 100% involvement and the highest pledge total received a free jeans day, a pizza lunch, and 250 House points! As well, the top individual fundraiser was awarded a special gift from the Hawthorn Shop!

The event began in the atrium, where Big Sisters paired up with their Little Siblings for a warm-up led by Athletics and House Representatives. Adding to the excitement, our school bee mascot and three “little bees” from JK and SK cheered on the participants.

Each sibling pair received a checkpoint card to collect stickers from twelve stations, starting with our Head of School, Ms Flores, at the school entrance. After completing the 4 km route and visiting eleven marshal stations staffed by faculty, students returned their cards at the finish line and were greeted with popsicles and congratulations.

Following the walk, the parking lot was transformed into a safe gathering space for House activities and games.

House Reps led fun games and activities, showed team spirit, and demonstrated leadership. The celebration wrapped up with music and dancing before everyone enjoyed a delicious BBQ, kindly supported by HAW Finance and the Grades 9 and 12 parents.

Walk-a-Thon 2025 was a wonderful success and a true celebration of community, leadership, and school spirit. Many thanks to all of our families and friends who supported us, and especially to Ms Pazooki, our Athletic Director, who organized this important, fun-filled event outside in the glorious fall sunshine for our wonderful school. Walk on, Hawthorn!
