Dear Faculty and Staff,
Every year in December, Hawthorn School collaborates with the Missionaries of Charity here in Toronto. The Order of the Missionaries of Charity cares for the blind, the elderly, the dying, refugees, and all those in need in the poorest communities of the city.
We partner with the Missionaries of Charity at Christmas in providing support for current families in need. This year, the Missionaries are asking if we can help 8 families in need of a Christmas gift.
This Christmas, we have decided to build community and involvement with our students in creating Christmas Hampers filled with essential pantry food items, small craft items and gift cards that the families can use to make their Christmas meal and season special.
If you would like to participate, we are asking to please send gift cards in denominations of $25 for stores like Walmart, President Choice, or other easily accessible locations where recipients can find anything they could need (clothes, shoes, food, toys, electronics, household items, etc).
Starting today and until December 4th gift cards can be ordered through the Hawthorn Gift card program, by doing so, your generosity goes farther not only helping families in need, but also helping Hawthorn. The order form is attached, and some extra copies are available at the office.
Students will receive house points for every gift card sent:
• 15 house points: For each gift card ordered through the Hawthorn Gift Card Program. Deadline to order through the school is Wednesday, December 4th. Please fill a form just for this purpose (do not mix with personal orders) and indicate at the top the order is for the generosity project. Forms attached for your convenience.
• 10 house points: For gift cards bought outside the gift card program until Wednesday, December 11th.
Led by the Tubman House, our students will assemble gift baskets together on Monday, December 16th in the afternoon for the Christmas Generosity Project. The Upper School students will then deliver the hampers to the Missionaries of Charity, who will distribute the gifts to the families by Christmas day.
Thank you so much for your help to share the joy of Christmas with these residents of Toronto.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Saishio or Madame Cayetano – 416 444 3054
On behalf of the Tubman House, thank you for your generosity!
