Grade 12 Master Discourse Project Presentations *new date*
Dear Hawthorn Parents, Mentors, Students, and Guests,
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Grade 12 Master Discourse Project presentations scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. The event will commence with all speakers and judges in attendance.
The Master Discourse Project (MDP) stands as a significant interdisciplinary endeavour embarked upon by Grade 12 students. It involves several key stages, starting with the selection of a thesis topic that bridges content from Grade 12 English and Philosophy with at least one other Grade 12 course. Students then delve into research, crafting, and delivering their thesis (ranging from 6 to 10 minutes) to a panel of judges, during which they will also be expected to orally defend their position.
The MDP is crafted to foster students’ growth in various areas:
-
Critical thinking, fostering the ability to forge interdisciplinary connections across different courses for deeper insights.
-
Scoping out meaningful research topics based on interdisciplinary perspectives.
-
Research skills honed through thorough investigation and rigorous methodology application.
-
Analytical skills sharpened by critically evaluating pertinent information and taking a stance on their topic.
-
Writing skills refined through the creation of compelling, logical, and concise papers.
-
Presentation and public speaking skills developed by sharing findings and defending positions before a panel and audience.
-
This experience is crafted to ease students’ transition into post-secondary education.
Grade 12 students will deliver their speeches, donning full #1 dress uniform, in person at the Atrium at 6:00 PM. Guests of Grade 12 students are warmly invited to attend!
We are eagerly looking forward to having you with us at this event as we celebrate the Grade 12s! Your presence will make it even more special. Light refreshments will be served afterwards to celebrate this endeavour.
