Parents’ Speaker Series: The Dangers of the Digital World

Our first Parents’ Speaker Series of the year will be happening Thursday, November 7!

Dear Parents,

The Internet is an integral part of our lives so it is important for us to have conversations with our children about its risks. The question is, “Where do we start?”

Hawthorn is pleased to invite María Villarino from Madrid, Spain to give sessions to parents, faculty and students from November 7 to 12 about cyber criminals, social media and dangers of the Internet.

SCHEDULE:
6:00 to 7:00 pm – What Cyber Criminals Do Not Want You to Know
7:00 pm to 7:30 pm – Wine, Cheese, and Hor D’Oeuvres
7:30 pm to 8:30 pm – Having Difficult Conversations With Your Child About The Digital World

María Villarino is the Co-Founder of Sally Families which currently works with over 40 schools in Spain to train parents, teachers and students to navigate the digital world safely. She can help parents speak with their daughters about intelligent use of the Internet. She is a native of Zaragoza, Spain. She studied Communication and History at the University of Navarre, specialized in screenwriting at UCLA, and has studied photography, documentary film and design in London as well as in Toronto. Ms. Villarino co-founded Sally Families when she and several professionals saw the vulnerability of children in the digital world and the helplessness of parents in offering guidance to their children about social media and the internet. Ms. Villarino and her team apply the strategies of cyber intelligence, cyber security, neuropsychology and common sense to train digital citizens to navigate the online world safely.
