When our Student Council President, Rocio ’25, proposed providing complimentary tickets to senior citizens for our school play, aiming to combat loneliness in the community, our Lower School students jumped at the opportunity to help serve. Their teachers trained them to greet the seniors, serve them coffee/tea and snacks, and engage in conversation with them.
Over 40 guests were thrilled to accept the generosity of our Student Council, and that gave our Lower School greeters, servers, and friendly faces ample opportunity to be of service during the performances. In addition to providing refreshments and company to the seniors, some students volunteered to help clean up and wash dishes during and after the play. They were really there to serve.
To ensure that seniors who lacked mobility would not be discouraged from attending, parents also offered to pick them up and drive them home for this unforgettable day of entertainment and socializing. Everyone’s support was greatly appreciated!
“We had our weekly meeting today and all the conversations were about how much fun it was and most positively, enjoying the tea and muffins before the play. All thought the girls did a great job, they felt like royalty being waited on like that.” – Marie Heard
