Every morning, students in grades six and seven embrace a calming ritual: a few peaceful minutes of “quiet time,” where they immerse themselves in the enchanting world of the “Timeless Tales of Beatrix Potter.” As they listen to these soothing stories, the girls settle into their tasks, whether it is tackling homework or engaging in other calm activities, all while setting a focused, studious tone for the great day ahead.
Grades six and seven students engage with timeless English literature by reciting memorized poetry. Recently, they have been diving into “The Frog” by Hilaire Belloc. The girls are assessed on multiple skills, from recitation and enunciation to posture and eye contact. Each student is encouraged to perform their memorized poem in front of the class. This practice not only boosts their public speaking skills but also builds confidence, refines body language, and enhances their storytelling and delivery.
Twice a month, students from grades four to seven dive into the intriguing world of “Constructing the Universe.” This class explores the fascinating interaction of Mathematics, Nature, and Art. The girls discover how math and geometry weave through everything, including the rhythms of music, the patterns in art, the strategies in games like chess, and the structures of the natural world and the cosmos. They also get to know the pioneering minds of mathematics, including the legendary Galileo Galilei and the ancient Euclid.
