Hawthorn’s student magazine has published the first of three yearly issues with a vibrant Fall 2024 Edition. Gr. 12 editors Adri, Rocio, and Christine, expertly guided by their faculty supervisor Dr. Helmers, have put together a vibrant collection of student writing and they deserve to be very proud of such a professional, inviting, and panoramic expression of Hawthorn’s creativity, opinions, and endeavours. Their thought-provoking editorial Bring Bullying Back carefully ponders questions of how we interact with people of multiple interests and backgrounds, and includes their revelatory survey conducted to see the mindset of the Upper School. Articles from contributing writers range widely in subject and include:
– reportages on the Upper School trip to Camp Olympia in Huntsville and on our school’s celebrations of Thanksgiving (Michaela; Adesuwa)
– a poem honouring the annual Fall Hawthorn Walkathon (Zakiyah);
– a promotion of the school play announcing… drumroll , please!…. the official cast of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into the Woods (!) (Viktoria)
– reviews of the thriller sci-fi tv series Stranger Things and of the Hawthorn Starbooks Book Club’s YA fantasy read The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea (Viktoria; Victoria)
– the highly anticipated Part VII of the ongoing creative writing story Ugly Smiles (Ria; Madeline);
– a new Baking Club recipe: Strawberry Cheesecake Cookies (yum!!);
– a Fall Fun and Games page 🙂
