Annual Clothing Drive: Curie House Makes Footprints in the Snow!

Curie House did an amazing job with the Hawthorn clothing drive this winter, offering warmth and compassion to people in our city who are struggling to keep warm in this year’s long stretch of frigid temperatures. In total, we collected 361 articles of clothing; many were gently used, and there were a few brand new items, too. The drive lasted from January 10th to 23rd and was announced at our St. Josemaria Day celebration and during school assemblies; there were also posters in our school and in the What’s New section of our website.

Congratulations to… (drum-roll, please!)… Curie House who squeaked by to win the challenge of bringing in the most articles, at only one item more than Tubman House – a true lesson in ‘every effort counts’ !

Two Hawthorn School for Girls students carrying large bags of donated clothes outside

A truck from The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic organization that helps people in need, came by Hawthorn last Thursday to pick up all the articles for distribution among the less fortunate. Four students from the Upper School jumped in to help load the bags into the truck in the cold weather.

Special thanks go out to Cristine, Curie House captain, for leading and inspiring Hawthorn in this important mission of humanitarianism. You have helped us to help others!
