What is Happiness?

What is Happiness?

Our Upper School students have dived back into a unique Hawthorn course co-taught by Mrs Pietrobon and Miss Yu. Character education is an integral component of a Hawthorn education, and participation in the REAL programme (Real Excellence and Attitude for Life) provides the time and the space for our students to grapple with big questions about what it means to live a life of virtue, grow in character strength, improve one’s well-being, and ultimately live happier and more balanced lives.

In our first resource for reflection and dialogue, best-selling author and Harvard business professor Arthur C. Brooks poses the thought-provoking question Why are Catholics so Happy? He makes a case for the real business of life as being the best person you can be, sanctifying your ordinary work by the love that you bring, and being the kind of magnetic, joyful presence in the world that people instinctively want to follow in their own quest for happiness. It’s the start of a new year of adventure in REAL, and we’re excited to be on our way!
