Art and Writing for the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Contest

Art and Writing for the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Contest

Congratulations to Carina, Grade 3, and Sena, Grade 6, for stepping up to the challenge of entering the Royal Canadian Legion’s National Youth Remembrance Contest. They responded to the open invitation of their teacher, Ms. Kim, to creatively express their thoughts on the theme of remembrance as our classes took time to honour Canada’s Veterans.

Each girl exercised her unique artistic ability to create a colourful poster to help foster the tradition of remembrance. Carina’s based hers on the poem In Flanders Fields by First World War military physician John McCrae. Sena called hers The World Remembers Their Sacrifices and wrote an original poem to accompany her artwork.

Good luck to Carina and Sena in the Legion’s Dambusters Branch of the Contest! You have joined more than 100,000 students nationwide who honour Canada’s Veterans through creative art and writing every year. Your creativity is a meaningful way to remember their sacrifices in the defence of peace and freedom in Canada and around the world. Well done!
