On April 1st, the CISAA Indoor Track and Field Meet took place at York University for students in Grades 9 to 12. Hawthorn was well represented, with early arrivals at 7:30 a.m., met by our Athletic Director, Ms Pazooki. After a coaches’ meeting at 8:30 a.m., the first event kicked off at 9:00 a.m.
Maddy ’26 shone in the 1500 meters, finishing a fantastic second place! These events provide invaluable practice opportunities, especially since many schools do not have access to indoor track facilities.
A second group of HSG athletes departed the school at noon with the help of parent drivers. They arrived in time for the 200-meter event at 1:00 p.m., where both Yuna ’28 and Amani ’28 competed brilliantly. The day concluded with the long jump at 2:00 p.m., where Yuna also participated, improving her third jump after a practice run.
Hawthorn’s Track and Field practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:35 to 5:00 p.m. after school. Our next meet will be on April 24th at St. Andrew’s College, focusing on all-girls Track and Field events. The CISAA Final Track and Field Meet will be held on May 11th and 12th. The top four athletes from each event will qualify for the Metros, May 26th and 28th, where athletes from CISAA, TDSB, TDCSB, and other GTA school boards will compete against each other. The top four athletes from the Metros will then advance to OFSAA, the provincial championships, in June in Niagara Falls.
We can’t wait to see everyone at practice and the upcoming events. Good luck to all of our athletes!
