On Friday afternoon, May 8th, our littlest Hawthorn flowers excitedly hosted a sweet Mother’s Day Tea in our school atrium, proudly welcoming special guests of honour – their mothers! After literally months of careful preparation, the big day had arrived! Our Daycare/JS Mother’s Day Tea was an enchanting event in an annual tradition of celebrating the wonderful maternal love and nurturing that our youngest students receive in their burgeoning lives. It treated moms to words of gratitude, praise, and encouragement from their children, educators, and teachers, as well as carefully rehearsed and performed poems and songs about their love for moms. Sprinkled throughout was a lovely assortment of tea and desserts, all formally laid out with ‘teapot’ place cards, white tablecloths, and vases of fresh spring flowers.
Our students truly put so much time, care, and thought into this event. They know how special it is, and they are aware of the incomparable importance of a mother. Beginning in February, our JK/SK students sowed, nurtured, and watered basil plants from seed in clay pots which they each hand-crafted and decorated especially for their moms. They put their fine-motor skills to significant work cutting, curling, and wrapping bouquets of paper flowers, choosing colours most special to each of their moms, and tucking in hand-made cards filled with oh-so-carefully handwritten words of love. In tiny embellished boxes, they offered hand-made clay earrings, each finely painted with their mom in mind. Following the speeches, performances, and gifts, they all sat down beside their moms to enjoy tea together.
Special thanks to Ms McRae, Director of Parent, Student, and Alumnae Relations, who worked with all of our wonderful Daycare and JS faculty and staff to organize this beautiful event. And, of course, to our guests of honour. Simply put, thank you, moms! We love you!
