Vela Club Returns to the LS – Hip Hip Hooray!

Hawthorn is happy to welcome back the Gr.3-5 Vela Club again this school year – the adventure begins! The Vela Club is named after the eponymous constellation which resembles the sails of a ship, a symbol which inspires us to further encourage our Hawthorn students to shine and ‘set sail’.

Each session fosters growth in virtues and in friendships via a craft or recipe, a talk, and overall encouragement/task distribution from the club leader. The girls are buoyed up in sharing with others, focusing on their tasks, and helping maintain orderliness after each session.

A huge thank you goes out to club leader Ms Gina Faraj, a former US Math teacher and a current mentor at the school. Vela Club meets two Wednesdays every month, from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m, from September to December (70$), with a second registration for the January to June session.

5 lower school Hawthorn School for Girls students make pizza together

Take a peek at our ‘Bread Experiments’ meeting of October 9th, where we made pizza dough from scratch and used mini-ovens to bake homemade pizzas – delicious! We are excited for our upcoming classes of Spooky Cupcake Decorating, Pumpkin Lanterns, Dips and Chips, Christmas Cookies, and Mini Nativity Set – and then, a brand new series of adventures from January to June!

Hoist the sails, Vela Club – and bon voyage!
