Participating in the CIS Visual Arts Festival 2024 Contest

The Conference of Independent Schools Ontario Visual Arts Festival (CISVAF) held a contest for students to “Create the 2024 Merch Back Design!” with the theme “How did we get here? Art, Identity and the Human Experience.” The contest was open to all Grade 9-12 visual arts students, with submissions due by November 18, 2024.

Special kudos go out to the following Hawthorn students who rose to the challenge of submitting a design for the chance to have their artwork featured on the back of the CISVAF 2024 merchandise, including hoodies, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and totes:

  • Hailey (Grade 9)
  • Mary, Ebun, Chloe, and Daniela (Grade 10)
  • Rocio (Grade 12)

Each student also submitted an accompanying artist’s statement describing their creative process. Concluding her statement, Hailey wrote,”I thoroughly enjoyed creating this design for CIS, as it allowed me to blend creativity with meaningful symbolism. Bringing together the themes of art, identity, and the human experience into one cohesive logo was both a rewarding and inspiring process. I loved experimenting with the wave, leaf-like elements, and cityscape to reflect growth, balance, and connection, while capturing the values of independent schools!”

Good luck in the contest, girls!
