Volunteering in Leaf-Raking Season!

In a new initiative, one of our Hawthorn moms asked St Bonaventure Parish to put a notice in their church bulletin about Hawthorn students volunteering to rake leaves for seniors in the neighborhood. Three seniors contacted us requesting help before yard waste collection that took place on Wed. Nov. 27.

During REAL class (Real Excellence and Attitude for Life), Mrs. Pietrobon and Miss Yu took the Grade 10 students to one home, the Grade 8 students to another, and the Grade 9s to a third home. The groups industriously raked leaves and needles, cut dead plants, and removed weeds.

One senior was so appreciative that she offered the volunteers chocolates!

Another senior said her garden was transformed, and the next day she came to Hawthorn to deliver a thank you card and lip gloss for the students who had helped her! She said, “All those fresh faces made my day. Please tell the girls they look great in red and blue. Love the uniform. It’s cheery.”

Thank you to all the REAL classes for putting your muscles, your hearts, and your enthusiasm into this Fall volunteering event. Together, you’re making a difference for those in need!
