On the afternoon of Sunday, December 8th, the Hawthorn community gathered in our resplendently decorated atrium for the much-anticipated holiday presentations of our students, from the daycare to the graduating class, as they lifted up their voices in song, readings, prayer, and play.

Prepare the Way to Christmas was the theme of this year’s collection of Advent Lessons and Carols (Upper School) and the Christmas Nativity Pageant (Lower School).

The Upper School Choir, the String Ensemble, and descant and violin accompaniment added sparkling musicality to this annual event.

We sang our way in joy and thanksgiving through a beautifully directed program, from the classic opening hymn Once in Royal David’s City all the way to The Hawthorn Express, an original play written by former Hawthorn faculty member Mrs. Gomez.

A warm reception and sing-a-long for students and staff, family and friends, followed the performance, with an array of tasty treats provided by parents of each class.

Special thanks go out to Mrs. Szalados, our music and pageant director, and to Miss Kim, our music director, organist, and pianist, for leading us in this wonderful celebration of Advent and Christmas.
