On the evening of Thursday, January 30th, Hawthorn pulled out all the stops and welcomed families and friends to our annual celebration of learning and life at the Hawthorn Exhibition. This year’s theme was Where ‘Wisdom Begins in Wonder’, a nod to a quote attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates. It was a wonderful encapsulation of our students’ sense of curiosity and awe about the world around us, and a glimpse at their path to knowledge through their questioning and marvelling at the mysteries of life.

Students stepped up in their smartest #1 dress uniforms to greet our guests and present them with a lively, colourful showcase of our latest projects and activities.

To begin, the well-rehearsed voices of our young JS and LS students rang out from the balcony over everyone assembled in the atrium as we honoured them:
Welcome to Hawthorn School, on this lovely evening.
We’re happy you joined us, on this occasion.
Hope you enjoy your stay, and come back again!

Families spent time visiting classroom showcases, where lively learning was on full display. Everything from the inspiring morning routines of our youngest students, to competency and expressivity in French and Spanish and Strings in our Junior School students, to LS and US subject demonstrations, and so much more, was thoughtfully presented through self-guided tours throughout the school.

What are we discovering in History? what are we creating in Art? reading in English? calculating in Math? exploring in Science? pondering in Philosophy? So much learning and growth on show!

Following the exhibition, our LS and US volleyball teams were each eager to play a fun exhibition game: parents/teachers/alumnae vs Hawthorn Stingers!

Congratulations to the parents/teachers/alumnae who won both games (some of them were coaches :). One of the parents commented how impressed he was with our school spirit: he had never heard so much cheering for a volleyball game before!

Throughout the evening, guests were invited to help support school events by stopping by the mobile Cash for Cart, a fund-raising initiative organized by US students who steered their tempting baking and beverage cart around the halls for everyone’s refreshment.Thank you to our families and friends for coming to our Exhibition. It was such fun to show you all the things that make us proud to be Hawthorn students, and we couldn’t do it without your love and support!
