Hawthorn Volleyball Triumphs Again!

Hawthorn Volleyball Triumphs Again!

Following up on our JS Volleyball victory of this month, it was now the turn of our US Volleyball to take to the court and prove their skill. We hosted the visiting team from Trinity College School (TCS) on January 15th after school for a Senior Girls Volleyball Game, Division 3. So far, we have been playing games that are the best 3 of 5 sets. For this game, we won 3 sets out of 4. Congratulations, girls!

Set 1: Hawthorn – 25-21

Set 2: Trinity – 20-25

Set 3: Hawthorn – 26-24

Set 4: Hawthorn – 25-20

Two Hawthorn School for Girls students keep score during volleyball game. Score is 24 to 24.

Prior to our game, TCS had won 3 games with no losses. Now with 3 wins and 1 loss, they are still at the top of our pool with 6 points. As for Hawthorn, we have won the 2 games we have played, giving us 4 points and tied for 2nd in our pool. Because of the weather on Dec. 4, our game with Lakefield College was cancelled but we have been in communication about rescheduling that game. To prepare, after coming off of our two-week Christmas break, we wanted to make sure that we had as many practices as we could before our game, especially with the new system of play introduced this year.

We are playing a 5-1 rotation, meaning that we have one setter on court (yesterday it was Ximena throughout the four games). Due to the nature of the system of play, there are many switches that may happen depending whether we are serving, receiving a serve, or playing in a rally.

The girls worked hard to familiarize themselves with their positions. We also focused on our serving, as it is such a crucial part of the game. When we are serving, it is the only time in the game where we completely control what is happening. It is the first action that can lead to a score and can change the momentum of the game in a second.

We’re so proud of all of our Senior players:

Left Side Hitters: Adesuwa; Isa; Adri

Sportsmanship Bracelet: As a part of the game, we want to acknowledge the players who show sportsmanship and play with a positive attitude. This may not be the best player scoring all the points, but a player who is respectful, fair, and uplifting despite what may be happening on court. Congratulations to Ebun who was awarded the Sportsmanship Bracelet by the TCS team members after Wednesday’s game.
