Veritas: Publishing the Unique Stories That Make Hawthorn School Special

Congratulations to Adri ’25, Christine ’25, and Rocio ’25, the editors of Veritas, and to all of the contributors, for a stellar Winter edition of Hawthorn’s Upper School student magazine. Our editors kicked off the Feb/Mar issue by taking what could have been a light-weight subject, Groundhog Day, and developing critical thinking about climate change that is ‘concerning to anyone who lives on Earth’. Among their thoughts, they cited Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, considered the natural and human factors that impact the world around us, published and analyzed the results of their Upper School environmental survey, and encouraged everyone in how to be actively responsible, caring, renewed stewards of our planet.

Other articles included memories from our school celebrations of St. Josemaría Day and Christmas, reviews of a movie and a red carpet event, a new recipe to bake, explorations of the history of Christmas and Valentine’s Day, the much anticipated final instalment of the incredible creative writing series Ugly Smiles, and a final page just for fun!

All aspiring Hawthorn US writers are urged to sharpen their pencils and submit their best articles for this year’s final edition of Veritas, the Spring 2025 issue. Becoming a published author is a great accomplishment in expressing your unique perspective – join us!
