Middle Grade Mathematicians Test Their Skills!

Middle Grade Mathematicians Test Their Skills!

Congratulations to all of our Grade 8 mathematicians who, bright and early on the morning of May 14th, took on the challenge of writing the annual Gauss Contest. Sponsored by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo, the Gauss Contest offers an exciting introduction to mathematics competitions for middle school students, posing unique and interesting problems in a multiple-choice format that encourages curiosity and nurtures an interest in the power of math. It is designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and develop their mathematical problem-solving ability. Most of the Gauss problems are based on the mathematical curriculum up to and including Grade 8.

Thank you to our Math teacher, Ms Sagaya Mary, for preparing the students and invigilating the contest at Hawthorn. We look forward to finding out results as soon as they become available.

Well done to each of you, Gr. 8s, for making this a great math contest experience – you did it!
