Walking the halls of Hawthorn’s Upper School, we have noticed a dynamic new bulletin board entitled HUMILITY. Looking more closely at the display, we see a ladder stretching from our planet Earth all the way to Eternity. We are drawn in to consider these words: ‘Each rung on the ladder is a step we can take to grow in humility. Every small act of humility is a step closer to God.’ And then, the rungs on the ladder lead us upwards, starting with, ‘God is the strength beneath each step; we rise only because He lifts us.’
Let’s take a moment now to answer the excellent question asked of us, ‘How will you climb today?’ :
Praying for others.

Being kind even when it’s hard.
Letting others go first.
Helping without being asked.

Serving without seeking praise.
Admitting mistakes.
Saying sorry.
Forgiving those who hurt us.
Thank you Nightingale House, who had the vision to make this virtue bulletin board come to life in the heart of our school, in front of the chapel. By your thoughtfulness and creativity, you encourage all of us to grow in humility, the Queen of Virtues, thus helping to cure ourselves of selfishness and allowing our other graces to shine fully and be most helpful to ourselves and the world.
