As you may recall, at the end of the 2023 – 2024 school year, all students in Grades 1 through 7 completed the Canadian Achievement Test, Fourth Edition (CAT4). The CAT4 evaluates key academic skills in reading, language, spelling, and mathematics. It also offers valuable insights into students’ learning abilities and how their performance compares with peers across the country.

This year, students in Grades 1 to 7 participated once again in the CAT4. From May 26th to May 30th, in blocks of time ranging from 15 to 50 minutes, they completed the various components of the test, including:
Reading
Word Analysis
Vocabulary
Spelling
Writing Conventions
Mathematics
Computation/Estimation

The goal is to track Hawthorn’s academic progress over time while keeping classroom routines as undisturbed as possible. There is no need for any test-specific preparation.

Thank you to all of our dedicated LS teachers for your continued support of this important national assessment tool. By incorporating it into the invaluable teaching and learning that you lead in your classrooms day to day throughout the school year, you have contributed to yet another successful assessment cycle!
