First Holy Communion is a Catholic ceremony named for a person’s first reception of the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Catholics believe this event to be very important, as the Eucharist is one of the central focuses of the Catholic Church. The Sacrament of Confirmation, for its part, helps a person remain faithful to his or her baptismal commitment to witness to Christ and to serve others.
To mark both of these milestones, here at Hawthorn we recognize the girls who have received their First Holy Communion and Confirmation with a celebration. On Wednesday, June 4th, parents and other guests were invited to join us at 11h45 Mass for JK to Grade 7. Afterwards, everyone was greeted in our Atrium and treated to a special dessert: one of the moms had bought two large cakes, one vanilla and one chocolate, for the entire Lower School! Fr. Eric came and said a few words to inspire and encourage us on our life’s path.

Our young First Communicants and Confirmants were happy to put their uniforms aside for the day to dress up in their First Communion or Confirmation dresses, and all students in JK to grade 7 were also welcome to wear spring dresses/outfits, adding to the general sense of festivity!

Thank you to Hawthorn parents who show such wonderful dedication to your child’s faith journey. Your commitment to guiding your child through these sacraments is deeply appreciated, as it lays a foundation for her spiritual growth for her lifetime, and that’s an invaluable gift worth celebrating!
