On a fresh and bright spring morning in early June, Hawthorn’s merry group of volunteers gathered for a lovely celebratory breakfast in our honour. The school’s administrative team greeted us personally and Head of School, Irian Flores, gave a wonderful speech thanking us for the gifts of time, talent, and encouragement that we share with this wonderful school which was founded thanks largely to the vision and work of volunteers. She let us know that our efforts are noticed and appreciated by young and old alike and gave each of us a thoughtful thank you card, oh-so-carefully and colourfully hand-decorated with us in mind by Hawthorn’s smallest flower buds in the JS.
We enjoyed each other’s company over coffee, bagels and lox, and pastries, and recognized that the real gift of Hawthorn is the loving care and invaluable guidance and opportunities that it provides to its students.
